The parish of St. Anne was organized in May, 1900, to accommodate the largely increasing Italian population in the upper section of the city, Rev. Father Di Persia, chaplain of St. Mary's Hospital, being secured by Bishop O'Connor as the St. Mary's Hospital, being secured by Bishop O'Connor as the first rector. Services were held in the house occupied by St. Anne's Society. On the removal of Father Di Persia to Paterson Rev. John Rongetti was placed in charge of the parish in 1903, and at once began preparations for the erection of the present building at Sixth and Jefferson Streets, the corner stone being laid on November 8, 1903. Father Rongetti was removed by Bishop Wigger in 1906 and the present rector, Rev. Michael Di Sapio, installed as rector.
