NO other city of the size of Hoboken can boast of a more
beneficent charitable institution than St. Mary's Hospital.
With an accommodation of 400 patients it gives shelter to
and takes care of all the sick and injured of the city who apply
for admission, and extends its helping hand to the unfortunate
sick and disabled of other parts of Hudson County.
St. Mary's Orphanage is conducted under the auspices of the
Church of Our Lady of Grace, established during the pastorate
of Rt. Rev. Monsignor Charles J. Kelly.
The Memorial Day Nursery, another very worthy charity, is
conducted by a number of ladies who provide shelter and care
for the helpless children of parents who are employed during the
day and cannot provide care-takers for them.
Other charities are The Helping Hand Coal Club, State Charities
Aid Association, Widows' Home, Society for the Prevention
of Cruelty to Children, the Frauen Huelfs Verein, Women's
Club, Heads and Hearts Society, King's Daughters, Ever Willing
Circle, Mercy and Help Committee, Scatter Good Circle,
Hebrew Ladies' Aid Society and the Moses Montefiore Ladies'
Aid Society.
