This church, now situated on the northwest corner of Garden
and Sixth Streets, was the first church in Hoboken
in which services were held in German. It was started in 1856
on Church Square by Rev. Dr. Leopold Mohn. It was permanently
organized as a Reformed church in August, 1856, by
the Classis of Bergen, ten men and ten women having signed
the petition for organization. The present building was erected
in 1860 at all expense of $10,000. The seating capacity is between
500 and 600; the Sunday School numbers about 700 scholars;
Ladies' Society about 100 members: Young People's Society about 150 members.
The Rev. Dr. Leopold Mohn, who organized the congregation,
was called to-the pastorate in 1856 and by his faithful work he succeeded in building up a large church. He served the
church up to the time of his death, in the year 1885.
The first trustees were Dietrich Quellhorst, Heinrich Quellhorst,
Jouis J. Hassen and Geo. Walter. The present pastor, the
Rev. Dr. J. Rudolph, was called to the church from Elizabeth,
N. J., in the year 1889 and by his earnest and tireless efforts he
not only upheld the membership, but greatly increased the same.
