The congregation was organized January 22nd, 1890, With a membership of about 30 men and women. It was incorporated under the laws of New jersey March 15, 1891. The church was called "Scandinavian" because it was intended to include the three nations, Norwegians, Swedes and Danes, as but few of the two last named nations ever joined the church it might properly be named the "Norwegian" church. Until 1894 the services were held in the German church, corner Hudson and Eighth Streets, through courtesy of St. Matthew's Lutheran congregation. In 1892 a piece of property, 25x100, was procured on the northeast corner of Ninth and Clinton Streets. In 1894 church, and later in the same year it was resolved to build a parsonage adjoining this building, and it was completed the following year. In 1901 a stone structure was erected. The a wooden building was erected, intended to be used as a temporary building is at present used for social gatherings, school, etc., and will be the base of the future church. The church proper (wooden building) has been lifted and put on top of it and is used for services. The congregation has at present a membership of 330. The Sunday School is frequented by about 100 children. The church conducts a Young People's Society and a Ladies' Aid Society.
