THE First United Presbyterian Church was organized in
1854. In 1856 they erected the present building, corner
Bloomfield and Seventh Streets. The following have served as
pastors: Rev. Wm. G. McElhenv 1855-1861 ; Rev. Samuel C.
Marshall, 1861-1863; Rev. Henry Allen, 1866-67; Rev. Robert
Armstrong, 1). D., 1868-1871 ; Rev. James Price, 1874-1877;
Rev. Wm. H. McKee, 1878-1879; Rev. John C. Scott, 1880-
1885; Rev. D.C. Stewart, 1891-1896; Rev. Wm. B. Barr, 1898-
1902; Rev. Wm. Garvin, 1902-1905; Rev. John Richards, 1906,
at present.
The present officers are: Elders, A. K. Bell, Mr. Johnson,
Mr. Ferguson.: Trustees, A. K. Bell, President; Miss A. Black,
Secretary; Thomas P. Black, A. Baxter, Mrs. A. Multus, and
Mrs. A. Campbell, Treasurer.
